Good morning, Swift Jets Lakey. 10-30 KMAS. Well, good Thursday morning to you, Jets Lakey here on KMAS.

Port of Shelton Commissioner Dale Elmland has resigned from his Position 1 seat, effective April 22nd. In his letter of resignation, Elmland cited family needs and said he will be permanently relocating out of state, expressing gratitude to his fellow Commissioners and Port employees for the opportunity to serve. The Port Commission officially accepted the resignation at Tuesday's meeting and heard from Port Attorney Skip Hauser on how the vacancy will be filled.
The Commission has 90 days to make an appointment and has scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday, April 28th at 2 in the afternoon to begin accepting letters of interest from Port residents. The Shelton City Council welcomed a new face to the Police Department Tuesday night, swearing in Officer Ben Jeffy. Jeffy recently graduated from the Southwest Washington Academy in Vancouver, where he ranked second overall in his class of recruits.
The Council also proclaimed yesterday as Earth Day in the city, recognizing local groups including Cedar Stewards of Mason County, Capital Land Trust, and the Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group. On the business side, Council members moved forward with a resolution to authorize construction management services for the Upper Angleside Pressure Zone Improvement Project, funded largely through the $1.8 million state appropriation. The project aims to boost water pressure and support up to 900 potential new connections.
Council also adopted the updated 2025 Comprehensive Plan after more than two years of work and signed off on an interlocal agreement with Mason County to continue operating the Shelton Skate Park while the city evaluates the aging structure's future. City Manager Mark Ziegler also gave a shout out to crews wrapping up the Railroad Avenue Tree Replacement Project just in time for last weekend's Olympus Rally. The next Shelton City Council meeting is the 5th of May at 6. Residents can attend in person at the Civic Center or watch on the city's YouTube channel.
And the Shelton High School Class of 2026 Parent Booster Club hosting a food truck, rodeo, and auction this Saturday at the Mason Hotel's parking lot in downtown Shelton, 111 East Railroad Avenue. Fun goes from 2 to 9 with food trucks, live music, beer garden, silent and live auction. Admission is by donation and all proceeds go towards the Class of 2026 Safe and Sober Graduation Party.
I'll have more on that in my interview with some of the organizers throughout the morning here today. It's also on the KMAS radio podcast. In sports, Mariners got back on the winning track last night, topping the Oakland A's 5-4 at T-Mobile Park.
Reliever Alex Munoz earned the win, improving to 3-2 on the year. Seattle now 11-15 on the season, have the day off today. In local sports, with information from Mason Web TV, Shelton softball dropped a tough one to Tumwater yesterday, falling 4-0.
Tumwater pitcher Sarah Stevens was dominant, 7 shutout innings, 12 strikeouts, and the High Climbers are now 8-5 on the season. The originally scheduled Shelton-Tumwater baseball game was postponed due to field conditions and has been moved to today at 4-30. Today's schedule also includes North Mason track at Kingston at 3, girls tennis with Shelton at Tumwater at 3-30, and Kingston visiting North Mason at 4, North Mason softball at Port Angeles, North Mason baseball at Bremerton, and Mary M. Knight hosting Wichita Valley in baseball this afternoon as well.
Again, nice day today here in the South Sound. Partly cloudy skies, highs around 63, no rain in the forecast. Good Thursday to you.
I'm Jeff Slicki here on KMAS.
